When Billy says his hands are cold, Michael warms them up and Billy asks him if he's gay. Billy spits it out, thinking it tastes awful, as Michael tells him that perhaps it's all for the best that he's not allowed to audition for dancing school, since that means he won't have to go away. That night, Billy and Michael build a snowman outside and Michael offers him some liquor that he stole from his father. Jackie begins to sob and the family stays silent. Jackie breaks through his traditionalistic and hyper-masculine view of the world.We see the Elliots at Christmas, wearing paper crowns. Further on Jackie starts supporting and funding Billy's dreams because he feels Billy has a lot to offer the world in terms of capability and skill. Towards the end of the film e start to notice a change in Jackie. Evident in his forbidding of Billy doing ballet, breaking the piano to pieces and hitting tony. Throughout the film viewers are shown a negative side of Jackie.

Even though the society they live in has a negative perception of homosexual individuals, Billy remands friends with Billy and does not change his perception of Michael. Michael allows Billy to show if he is gay or heterosexual and Billy kindly reminds Michael that he is heterosexual. Michael asks as a red herring in this film as he introduces viewers to notion that Billy may be homosexual. Acknowledging his own and others sexual orientation.

In scene 2 we see Billy switch from boxing to ballet through the close up shot of him removing his boxing boots and putting on ballet slippers.Ģ.
